Maria Fassi and Jennifer Kupcho – who finished in first and second place, respectively, at the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur – have committed to play in the 2019 ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer. Fassi (Univ. of Arkansas) just won the 2019 individual NCAA title and Kupcho (Wake Forest Univ.) was the 2018 NCAA individual champion. Fassi and Kupcho took part in a memorable duel while paired in the final group at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur event in April. Kupcho – the world’s top ranked amateur – trailed by one shot with nine holes remaining and played the last six holes at five under par to claim the victory over Fassi. Both players will make their professional debuts this week at the U.S. Women’s Open. They earned their LPGA cards during the 2018 LPGA Q-Series, but deferred status in order to finish their college careers. The ShopRite LPGA Classic has helped launch the careers of numerous notable players including Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer and Brooke Henderson. Leona Maguire, who debuted as a professional at last year’s tournament, has won two of her last four events this season and is ranked No. 1 on the Symetra Tour money list. The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer will be held June 3-9, 2019. The 144-player field will compete over three rounds for a $1.75 million purse at Seaview in Galloway, New Jersey. The tournament will be televised live on Golf Channel.
