Regains World No. 1 Ranking
Stacy Lewis blew away the field at the ShopRite LPGA Classic on Sunday with a 67 that took her to 16 under par for the week, holding off Christina Kim at -10 and a quartet of players at -9. With the win, she regains the world No. 1 ranking that had been held by Inbee Park for 59 straight weeks.
After her round she spoke of the nostalgia of winning for the second time at Stockton Seaview. "I don't know what it is about this place," she said. "It's just really special to me. I've played some really good golf here."
Kim, shot two over par in the final round to finish in solo second, spoke of the overwhelming fan support she fell all week long in South Jersey. "Having people shout my name and telling me that they're rooting for me, it always brings a smile to my face," she said.
Lewis echoed those sentiments in describing the massive galleries that followed her all week in Galloway. "It's unbelievable the amount of people we get out at this tournament. You finish there at 18 and you're just absolutely mobbed all the way through there. There's really no escape. So it's just cool to see all the people that come out and to me it feels like it's growing every year."
