Defending champion Anna Nordqvist has committed to play in the 2016 ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer and will be joined in the field by past winners Stacy Lewis, Karrie Webb, Cristie Kerr, Juli Inkster, Angela Stanford and Ai Miyazato, tournament organizers announced.
“We’re proud that our list of champions includes many of the great players in the history of the LPGA,” said Tim Erensen, executive director of the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer. “We look forward to tournament week and the crowning of our next champion at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club.”
Tournament organizers also announced that Candy Hannemann and Elizabeth Wang will compete on sponsor exemptions. Hannemann is a Brazilian native attempting to represent her country this summer when golf returns to the Olympics. Wang, a high school sophomore from San Marino, Calif., is ranked No. 11 nationally on the American Junior Golf Association Rankings and earned her spot in the field by winning the 2015 Junior PGA Championship.
The field includes a number of other notable players including South Jersey fan favorites like Natalie Gulbis, Christina Kim and Suzanne Pettersen, and young standouts like Canadian sensation Brooke Henderson.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer will be held Monday, May 30 through Sunday, June 5. The 144-player field will compete over three rounds for a $1.5 million purse at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. The tournament will be televised live on Golf Channel.
