Acer, ShopRite Partner with the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City
May 7, 2018
Acer and ShopRite are collaborating with the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City on an initiative to encourage middle school students to focus on the pursuit of higher education as they progress through high school. The program was kicked off this spring and will conclude with a visit to the 2018 ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer.
Hosted at the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City for sixth through eighth graders, the 12-week program prepares students for college entry with monthly classes addressing the following topics:
Introduction to higher education
How to select schools, a major and more
SAT/ACT preparation, the importance of grades, the right classes and a healthy lifestyle
Paying for college
Financial aid, scholarships, grants and work study programs
At the conclusion of the program, students will write an essay about how the program helped them determine whether college is right for them and why. Acer will award three of the students with a laptop and provide ten new laptops for the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City.
"Acer is committed to supporting students with tools that will help them succeed in the classroom and in the world beyond," said Kim Phipps, Acer senior director, global communication and brand. "We’re thrilled to team up with ShopRite and the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City to provide participating students with resources that prepare them for achieving a higher education."
The student winners will be recognized at a day long event during the first round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer on Friday, June 8th. Their visit includes free tickets, lunch in the ShopRite Pavilion, a behind-the-scenes tour of the professional golf tournament, a meet-and-greet with an LPGA professional, and an awards ceremony that evening at Stockton Seaview Hotel.
To underscore the positive impact of healthy eating habits on earning an education, ShopRite is donating gift baskets with wholesome food options to the Boys & Girls Club throughout the 12-week program, as well as a $100 gift card to each student.
"We strive to have a positive impact on our community throughout the year, so we’re excited to join the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, ShopRite and Acer in encouraging students to pursue higher education," said Leela Narang, tournament director of the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer. "We want to sincerely thank two of our major partners for continuing to invest in the future of South Jersey."
