Organizations that help the families of children battling cancer and food banks that feed the hungry were among more than 40 non-profit groups accepting grants Friday from ShopRite at the annual charity luncheon held during the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer in Galloway, NJ.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer showcases some of the best female golfers in the world while also putting the spotlight on community. The tournament generates millions in local spending each year while raising money for charities based in the communities where ShopRite stores operate.
On Friday, ShopRite presented grants to more than 40 of those groups, including several healthcare and hunger-fighting organizations, during a special luncheon at Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club.
“The ShopRite LPGA Classic is a great sporting and family-oriented event, but it’s also a great opportunity to recognize the feats of charitable organizations and their enduring and important work. ShopRite was proud to donate $1.4 million in grants to those groups during today’s luncheon,” said ShopRite Spokeswoman Karen Meleta.
“ShopRite’s commitment to the community is unparalleled on the LPGA circuit,” said Tim Erensen, the tournament’s Executive Director. “This is an amazing example of what can be accomplished and we’re extremely proud to be associated with the huge charitable impact that ShopRite has on our region.”
Groups accepting donations Friday included the Special Olympics of New Jersey, which hosts games this month, and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, a national leader in the treatment of spinal cord and brain injuries.
The ShopRite LPGA and its corporate sponsors also support programs such as local Feeding America food banks; the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation; Atlanticare Regional Medical Center; Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in North Jersey; diabetes management programs at St. Joseph’s Medical Center; CARES Institute’s Treatment Center for Child Abuse and Neglect; food banks throughout the region Embrace Kids Foundation, which provides support to the families of pediatric cancer patients, and organizations that support Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer attracts strong corporate partners because of its dedication to providing an affordable, world-class entertainment experience for the entire family.
This year’s tournament features defending champion IK Kim, an active supporter of the Special Olympics New Jersey, competing for a share of the record-high $1.75 million purse. She is joined in the field by past winners Anna Nordqvist, Stacy Lewis and Karrie Webb. The field will also include fan favorites such as Paula Creamer, Brooke Henderson and Morgan Pressel.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer runs through Sunday, June 10th. The 144-player field will compete over three rounds and the tournament will be televised live on Golf Channel.
